Magic is Value: Brewing with Eerie Interlude

Magic is Value: Brewing with Eerie Interlude

1 - SHADOWS KEEP GIVING

I want to talk to you about a card that really got the brewer in me excited. The Current standard format is packed with powerful creatures and removal spells. How can we make our creatures better and the opponent’s removal obsolete?

During Onslaught block years ago, there was a card that irritated the heck out of any control player.

Astral Slide Eerie-Interlude

Astral Slide was great. It synergized with Morph creatures and all the cycle cards that were in the set. Shadows gave us a card that does the same thing, but better!

Eerie Interlude is a card to protect your creatures and abuse Enter the Battlefield triggers.

Let’s look at a few option we have to make Eerie Interlude really powerful.

2 - CREATURES WITH VALUE

You want to abuse Enter the Battlefield triggers as much as possible to give plenty of value when you cast Eerie Interlude.

Thopter-Engineer Pia-and-Kiran-Nalaar

Thopter Engineer and Pia and Kiran Nalaar is great at producing thopters. Flyers are generally great and make good chump blockers when you are in a pinch.

Pia and Kiran Nalaar is also an all-star when games go longer than expected. Four power and toughness for four mana plus a built in shock is good value.

With tokens there are also plenty of other option to give the deck versatility and late game strategies.

White decks can ramp. Knight of the White Orchid is great at getting an extra land, it’s also one scary bear. In addition we can play Pilgrim’s Eye just to make sure we get our land drops.

3 - UTILITY

A much underrated card for me in standard and modern at the moment is Goblin Dark-Dwellers. It slots in nicely to the five slot in the deck, also free spells. So why not?

Goblin-Dark-Dwellers

Exquisite Firecraft and Declaration in Stone fits in nicely as removal and getting to play it for free when you cast a Goblin Dark-Dweller is pure value.

4 - THE DECK

Creatures (26)

2 x Archangel Avacyn
4 x Cleric of the Forward order
3 x Goblin Dark-Dwellers
4 x Knight of the White Orchid
3 x Pia and Kiran Nalaar
2 x Pilgrim’s Eye
4 x Thraben Inspector
4 x Thopter Engineer

Instants (4)

4 x Eerie Interlude

Sorceries (7)

3 x Exquisite Firecraft
4 x Declaration in Stone

Lands (22)

6 x Plains
2 x Mountain
4 x Battlefield Forge
4 x Needle Spires
4 x Stone Quarry
2 x Westvale Abbey

Sideboard (15)

3 x Rending Volley
2 x Linvala, the Preserver
2 x Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
2 x Hidden Dragonslayer
2 x Crumble to Dust
2 x Impulse" target="_blank">Fiery Impulse
2 x Silk Wrap

So with token strategies I think Westvale Abbey is a must. Easy to get to five creature with the thopter generators and Eerie Interlude. Make sure to activate this when your opponent is tapped out as Stasis Snare and Declaration in Stone is the weapon of choice these days.

Westvale-Abbey Ormendahl, Profane Prince

Archangel Avacyn is the real deal, she serves as additional backup for when you don’t have an Eerie Interlude to protect your team.

Archangel-Avacyn Avacyn, the Purifier

Cleric of the forward order is great early game to help you against the agro decks. Cast Eerie Interlude with two of these guys on the battlefield and you get eight life back.

This deck is super fun to pilot. With the instant speed shenanigans and cheating your creatures out of death your opponents will beg you to stop.

Thanks for Reading and happy Brewing <3
