Corporate sponsorship of Magic has arrived

With degrees in journalism and economic science from the University of the Witwatersrand, Alistair Anderson was awarded the 2015 Property Journalist of the Year award by the South African Property Owner’s Association. He has founded Sweatshop Press with the aim of shaking up the publishing industry with books that people actually enjoy reading.Corporate sponsorship of Magic: it’s finally happening.

As the Marketing Director of Sweatshop Press I am proud to announce that Magic the Gathering in South Africa is about to change forever.

On the 21st of May we will be partnering with Top Deck to bring you SA Magic’s richest cash prize tournament, marking the first step toward corporate sponsorship as a driving force for growth in the local game. This tournament will be the first launch event for Kill Time or Die Trying, Neil Stacey’s hilarious account of a geek triumphing over bureaucracy at Wits University.

This is a partnership that makes sense. Top Deck’s first birthday celebration will also mark a first for SA Magic, giving us a remarkable opportunity to reach our core audience. Players can expect a truly unique event along with R15 000 in cash prizes.

Copies of the book will be on sale on the day and the author, himself a Magic player, will be on hand for an open book signing from 9:30am to 10:30am. He will also be doing commentary on the live stream of the tournament throughout the day.
